AI Tool Policy
|
Panggulawentah: Journal of Education and Social Humanities (PJESH) acknowledges that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies offer new possibilities in academic research and scholarly writing, while simultaneously presenting ethical, transparency, and accountability challenges. PJESH recognizes the potential of GenAI to improve manuscript preparation efficiency; however, its use must be guided by clear ethical principles to preserve the integrity, credibility, and trustworthiness of academic publications. This policy establishes expectations and guidelines for authors, reviewers, and editors regarding the responsible use of GenAI tools in the research, review, and publication processes. Transparency in the Use of GenAI PJESH requires authors to explicitly disclose any use of GenAI tools—such as ChatGPT, GPT-based systems, Bard, or similar technologies—during manuscript preparation. This includes the use of GenAI for drafting text, language editing, data processing, visualization support, or other auxiliary tasks. Disclosure must be stated clearly in the Acknowledgements section or as a footnote, specifying the tool's name and function. Example: Failure to disclose the use of GenAI tools may constitute a breach of publication ethics. Authorship and Responsibility The use of GenAI does not diminish or transfer the authors’ responsibility for the submitted work. Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, accuracy, ethical compliance, and scholarly validity of their manuscripts, including any content supported by GenAI tools. GenAI tools cannot be credited as authors under any circumstances, as they do not meet authorship criteria such as intellectual accountability, responsibility, or consent. Ethical Use of GenAI Authors using GenAI tools must comply with PJESH’s ethical standards, including:
Any unethical or undisclosed use of GenAI will be treated as a violation of publication ethics. GenAI and the Peer Review Process PJESH does not employ GenAI tools in the peer-review process. All manuscripts are assessed by qualified human reviewers who rely on their academic expertise and professional judgment. Reviewers are also discouraged from using GenAI tools to evaluate manuscripts, ensuring that assessments remain personal, critical, and intellectually grounded. Editorial and Publishing Practices While PJESH may utilize GenAI-based tools for limited technical purposes—such as language polishing, similarity checking, or editorial workflow support—all editorial decisions are made exclusively by human editors. Any GenAI-generated output used at the editorial level is carefully reviewed to ensure compliance with journal standards. Guidelines for Authors To comply with this policy, authors must:
Policy Review and Updates As GenAI technologies continue to evolve, PJESH will periodically review and update this policy to align with emerging ethical standards and best practices in academic publishing. |
